JOB SUMMARY: The Registration Associate interviews the patient or his/her representative to obtain patient demographics. This position also secures insurance information, eligibility, benefits and authorizations as applicable. Works closely with all facets of the Admitting department. Must be able to operate a computer to input and retrieve data. Ability to communicate with the population served, utilizing age specific techniques from neonatal, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle adult to geriatrics. Maintain proficiency in medical terminology. Special projects or other assignments may be given with expectations to be completed in a specified timeframe.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. Previous hospital experience as an admissions representative preferred.
2. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
3. Effective written and verbal communication skills
4. Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
5. Analytical and problem-solving skills.
6. Customer service experience required.
7. High School Graduate or GED equivalent required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Interviews & registers patients in a professional manner.
2. Accurately enters information and completes the registration process.
3. Is careful in the selection/creation of existing MRN numbers to not create duplicates.
4. Completes registration process in a timely manner.
5. Obtains all required signatures and distributes them appropriately.
6. Records pertinent data on department specific sign in logs with accuracy.
7. Accurately scans Admitting documents and patient signature forms into the scanning systems; indexes documents correctly into the proper document types.
8. Collects monies and issues receipts for payment with 100% accuracy.
9. Makes collection attempt when patient has financial liability.
10. Demonstrates excellent customer services skills.
11. Properly and courteously answers inquiries by telephone.
12. Responds to inquiries in an informative way while adhering to hospital policy.
13. Verifies insurance eligibility on every patient.
14. Documents within every patients account; eligibility verification, collection efforts and all other pertinent information.
15. Maintain regular attendance.
16. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
