JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision performs a dual role as both a medical assistant and front office assistant with the primary focus as a medical assistant. You must be able to work Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm, Friday 8am-5pm, and every 4th Saturday from 8am-12pm.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- BLS/CPR required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Must have prior experience with obtaining patient vitals, various waived lab testing, performing EKGs, injections, phlebotomy, updating and maintaining healthcare records, patient transport and wheelchair safety.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Greet patients and escort them to the exam / treatment rooms.
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.
- Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
- Assist provider with exam or procedures as needed. Communicate the patient’s needs to the physician(s) or designated mid-level provider(s).
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physician(s)' or designated mid-level provider(s) instructions to patients.
- Prepare and administer vaccines/injections as directed by a physician(s) or designated mid-level provider(s).
- Log into ECW and vaccine book.
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies as directed by the physician(s) or designated mid-level provider(s).
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and order as needed, as well as stock all exam rooms as needed.
- Maintain prescription inventory which may include ordering all prescriptions within a timely manner.
- Greet visitors, ascertain purpose of visit, and direct them to appropriate staff.
- Schedule diagnostic appointments, surgeries and medical consultations.
- Receive and route messages and documents to appropriate staff as appropriate.
- Complete prior authorizations and prescription forms as well as referrals to specialists.
- Maintain the overall appearance of work area, exam rooms, sample and supply closets.
