JOB SUMMARY: The Switchboard Operator is responsible for answering the switchboard and pages overhead, greets and directs people to the appropriate departments. The Switchboard operator monitors the hospital alarms and must be aware of the policy and procedures of all hospital emergency codes. Ability to communicate with population served. .

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  2. Previous Switchboard experience preferred.
  3. Previous experience in an office setting or as a receptionist.
  4. Effective written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
  6. Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Customer Service experience preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Answer and screen inside and outside calls. Relays calls to proper department. Transfers and holds call as appropriate.

Answer/page all emergency codes and notify appropriate personnel.

Find doctor according to request (home/office/page).

Utilizes overhead paging system as directed and in a clear professional manner.

Responds to hospital alarms and emergency codes by following protocol of paging overhead promptly and in a clear professional manger and notifying appropriate mangers and departments by via: pager or radio.

Accurately and consistently communicates with engineering, security and bio-med departments via radio.

Assists Nursing House Supervisor by verification of census reports as needed.

Look up numbers for staff and help complete calls.

Page doctors and staff via intercom/pocket/radio pagers as needed.

Consistently projects positive professional image through appearance and behavior.

Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

Keep track of all state beeps/calls.

Maintain phone #’s for nursing homes/pharmacy/funeral homes/ambulances.

Look up patient room numbers for in and outside callers.

Monitor hospital alarm systems.

Monitors 2-way radio for Security.

Maintain hospital department call sheets.

Prepare and maintain daily physician call sheets.

Report phone problems to the IT Helpdesk.

Knows the disaster/ SAFEPLACE/ generator test procedures.

Available to work all shifts.
